Staying Active

So today I want to talk about something that I am struggling with lately: staying active. About 6 months ago, I started a 9-5 desk job. In such, I think it has really hurt my activity levels, and sort of stunted my weight loss journey. Its hard to lose weight when you are sitting on your butt all day.

When I had a desk job in the past, I definitely noticed this cycle. So when I started working my last job that kept me moving constantly, I noticed a huge change in my body. The change in job types literally contributed to a nearly 25lb. weight loss. Pretty cool, huh? But now I am up about 10lbs., and I just can’t seem to get any of it off.

I finally came to the realization that my job is a big factor about 2 weeks ago. I have been consistently working out 3-5 times a week, eating everything in moderation, trying new supplements, etc. since the beginning of the year. While I am seeing some slight changes (muscle definition, strength, etc.), the numbers on the scale just aren’t budging. So I decided to really make it a goal to stay active throughout the day. I am now getting up several times a day just to walk around, I am helping with some more active tasks at work that are not necessarily my job, and I am also trying to be a little more active when I head home at night.

With the time change in full effect, it will be much easier for me to get a little fresh air, and be more active after work in the evenings. I already try to go to the gym most nights after work if I don’t have other plans, but now I want to start implanting some other fun activities instead of just being a couch potato. Playing fetch with the dogs, going for a walk around the block, riding my bicycle on the beach; there are all kinds of fun things I can pick up to make myself a little more active. Maybe that will be the kick that I need to finally start getting some of this weight off. Can’t hurt to try; I doubt anyone every regretted creating a more active lifestyle for themselves.
